Expressing Pi - Parametric Design Process
The origami models demonstrated that the forms created are both bending and twisting. To achieve this principle within a digital 3D model, a parametric design approach was utilised with the Rhinoceros 3D modelling system as well as the Grasshopper plugin. The modelling principle relies upon manipulating bending and twisting of a flat surface. This investigation demonstrated that by applying different mathematical functions to the bending and twisting a range of outcomes could be produced. Within this grasshopper definition the function of pi and the sine wave are being used to control the bend and twist of the overall shape.
