Dal Santo - Chair
This project takes its name from an Italian maker who migrated to Australia during the gold rush. Dal Santo on his arrival did not have many possessions, so to furnish his new home, he took old packing cases from his local grocers and transformed them into beautiful furniture pieces for the comfort of his family. This humble story much like many Australians at the time creating 'make do' furniture, was the driver for this project, a family table built from discarded pallet timber.
There is a beauty inherent in materials that have had a past life and in a world today where we are realising more and more that our earth's materials are finite, extending the life of our materials should be a focal point in design today.
