Working with both traditional and non- traditional materials has led to the emergence of other paradoxes, relationships between the sinister and the fragile and strength and vulnerability.
Informed by the work of Carl Jung and social scientist Brene Brown, as well as traditional and non-traditional forms of mask and costume, such as Nick Cave’s Sound Suits, I want to deal with the self as a part rather than the whole. Trauma and darkness that lays dormant must be exposed before it can heal. The forms that emerge from an intuitive practice are merely allusive, and its interpretations evoke the provocative question – do we only see what we already know? Is our view of the world another manifestation of the inner seeping into the outer?
