Foundation of Society
Reflective of Hong Kong as a society, a culture and the environment; this particular work considers the cycle of consumption to waste and it's impact. Hong Kong is an island bursting at it's seams with people, as such the buildings are getting taller, consumption is becoming greater and more waste is going to landfill. It has been predicted that Hong Kong's landfills will be full within six years and the need to reduce waste going to landfill is becoming more and more imminent. One alternative the Hong Kong government has come up with is Public Fill. Whereby waste from projects such as construction and excavation alternatively get reused for projects such as earth filling. Inspired by my observations of the makeshift nature of Hong Kong, my work has been created with a foundation of waste, recycled into new products. It reflects the landscape physically through the nature of buildings and homes constructed upon earth filling waste projects and through the architecture of the location.
