Rebecca Culican is an emerging Sydney based textile artist and member of ‘The Loose Thread Collective,’ formed in late 2012. She engages predominantly with second-hand cloth, materials, possessions and garments, particularly heirlooms of family regeneration. The memories embedded in cloth and how these are manipulated and reformed when they undertake new ownership are explored through replicated and transfigured patterns of cross-stitch, traditional embroidery and drawing. Rebecca also has a keen interest in the organic versus manmade structure, existing throughout our modern contexts, that she investigates through the process of mindless sketching and collage.
