‘Fortuitous Filahta’ explores the notion of containing luck in an object. The collection questions the origin of luck in the filahta, a Greek family talisman. The filahta is an object that is worn to protect and provide good fortune. Although it is said to contain a lucky material, there is no way of knowing, as the lucky contents are hidden from view. The wearer cannot see to validate the mysterious material that the filahta conceals and must put trust into the unknown. Guided by these traditional customs, ‘Fortuitous Filahta’ questions the notion and role of lucky objects in today’s context.
