SWATHE, 2013
The Swathe collection observes and embraces the aesthetic and cultural traditions surrounding the indian sari and uses this information to create new forms appropriate to the female Indian population living in Australia. The collection is a contemporary, functional and conceptually relevant series of wearable garments. The range explores cultural fusion between India and Australia and reflects the core social, religious and ceremonial values of each nation. Swathe aims to create garments that highlight the cultural essence of the sari and transcend into Australia’s multicultural climate of the 21st century. The collection address the decline of sari use for everyday wear in Australia’s Indian communities and endeavours to find a solution that abides by the Indian values of modesty.
