Denial
This artwork series is inspired by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross’ research, which theorises that, when dealing with trauma, all individuals experience five stages of grief – Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance (DABDA). Using graphite and white pastel on coloured paper, I employed a ‘close-up’ composition so that in each portrait the expression remains paramount. The faces are anonymous and from different nationalities, symbolising the universal applicability of the five stages of grief.
