No Pig's Land
The initial driver for my typeface was the
game Angry Birds, developed by Rovio Ltd.
The game Angry Birds is based on the idea of
slingshoting a bird through the air with the aim
of killing all the pigs on each level. The pigs are
the enemies for stealing all your eggs. Each level
contains obstacles to block your path of flight
and it’s these obstacles that I’ve appropriated
to construct my typeface. From my experience
I found Angry Birds annoying, irritating and
addictive ensuring a stubborn determination to
play and overcome the game.
The concept behind my typeface is that it
establishes the obstacles that you predominantly
become annoyed at, using the pieces in the
game which are amongst the hardest to break
or get past re-instilling the idea of the stigma
I associate with the game. The title “No Pig’s
Land” is a play on words which explains the aim
of the game and is re-iterated through the lack
of pigs in the typeface.
