The COFA Annual 2013

Leigh Lemay attempts to better understand the human condition by using art making as a means of breaking through linguistic constraints. Via her insatiable quest to ‘know thyself’, she consistently explores texts and mediums that are foreign to her. In addition to traditional painting mediums, she has incorporated sponge, soap, ice, varnish, latex, perspex, light, photography and video into her works. She is primarily interested in feminism and the philosophy surrounding ‘the liminal space’. In her current project she has brought these two perspectives together by challenging consumer culture’s obsession with the static image as a representation of ideal beauty.
