The COFA Annual 2013

Passionate about imaging the arid zone of far Western NSW, Susan Severino’s en Plein Air painting and drawing practice documents the topographical and physical features of the land’s surface, immersing the viewer within its immense scale where human comforts and self-centred feelings of control that are part of urban living, disappear.

This ancient land is vulnerable to human land use, global warming and climate change. Drawing comparisons to the skin of living organisms the images capture the beauty in eroded, weathered surfaces which are desiccated and leathered with age, stretched, and in some places torn and irreparably damaged.
