Death Mask #1
Paraffin wax, glass.
My current body of work is focused on the natural environment and society’s constant endeavour to manipulate, compartmentalize and sanitize it.
Molds are taken of natural objects such as stones and cave outcrops situated in their original environment, then recontextualized through wax sculptures of varied colour and composition, redefining the scale and power of each object in a new context.
The use of wax references the historical material of choice for death masks of those both hated and revered. A parallel for how we treat our environment.
