Coin-slot telescope
I am drawn to photography’s capacity to force a disconnect from the familiar.
The work creates a visual uncertainty through a disquieting interplay between an inner unknowability and outer ambiguity. Sound – shifting, super-low frequency, subliminal and penetrating –is a presence, which heightens the emotive disconnect with the images but sustains an interconnectedness between dual spaces. The viewer enters and exits these zones of sensation… a system of fluctuant exchange between image, object and sound. My manipulation of vision engages the viewer with both the timeless and the ephemeral nature of image. In Sight lines time closes the ‘Coin-slot Telescope’.
