Mary Jo’s work primarily employs the use of vanity as a means of discovering the hidden truth behind actions and thoughts not only as a part of the continuous process of self-discovery, but also in attempts to find commonalities between the experiences of the artist and the audience. The aim of her practice is not to find a single universal truth, as there may not be one, but instead to consider the relativity of truth and how that affects notions of personal identity.
