Deterior (worse)
Clay silt sourced from Smith's Lake Video, 0:23 (looped) I created this skull after a weeklong field trip to the UNSW Smith’s Lake Biology Research Station. I sourced the silt clay from the lakes shoreline. It was incredibly malleable and was a fantastic rich grey colour. I then submerged the skull in water and documented the process of its deterioration. I have manipulated the materiality of a skull, usually one of the lasting symbolic reminders of death and decay, as well as clay which is synonymous with longevity and eternality. The result is an ephemeral sculpture manipulated by time and natural forces.
